Calculation of Liner Size
Accurate estimation of required dam liner size is important to avoid wasting money due to a liner that is too large or two small. Dimensions of liner size can be easily obtained for a new dam from excavation drawings. For an existing dam or pond, size of the liner can be estimated from measurements of the dam. You would also need to consider additional material for the overlay or overlap depending on the fixing method that you are planning.
Fleximake can also offer geo fabric underlay for your project to provide more resilience and protection to the dam liner against ground movement. You can also estimate the amount of geo fabric underlay from excavation drawings or the measurement of your dam.
Installation of Large Single-Piece (Single-Panel) Dam or Pond liner
Fleximake can manufacture large single-piece dam or pond liners using our specialised machines. These single piece liners can eliminate tricky and time consuming liner joining work on site. We deliver our liners fully welded at the factory and folded in a way that you can easily unfold within the dam for convenient installation.
Excavation and Ground Preparation of a new dam. If in an existing dam, divert the water inflow and pump the rest of the water out of the dam. Remove any organic matter and silt to reveal the original dam floor
Ground needs to be prepared by eliminating any sharp objects that may damage the liner. Then, the dam floor needs to be smoothened and compacted to get rid of any rills and gullies
Place a layer of geo fabric across the middle of the dam. Then place the liner in the middle of the dam on top of the geo fabric layer. Unfold the liner to from middle to the edges across the dam. Keep laying geo fabrics to cover the dam. The dam liner can then be unfolded on top of the geo fabric along the dam to the edges. The installation guidelines may vary case by case. Place the overlap on the recess around the edges.
Make sure liner has slack and would not tension prior to filling the water. Allow for inflow to enter the lined dam via a stable inlet. If possible, fill the dam slowly (e.g. 30cm-40cm a day) to allow for proper wetting of the lining material, and gradually increasing the load on the embankment. Secure the liner by filling the recess to cover the overlap of the liner.
Installation for Very Large Dam (Multi-Panel Liner)
It is not usually practical to handle single piece liners for large ponds or dams above certain size. For these dams, multiple liner sections may need to be joined onsite by means of specialised plastic welding methods to ensure water proofing. How to Calculate Liner Size for a Small Pond
Required liner size for small ponds can be calculated easily with the following equations
Length of pond liner = Pond length + (2 x Pond depth) + (2 x Edge length)
Width of pond liner = Pond width +(2 x Pond depth) + (2 x Edge length)
Required edge length depends on individual application and method of securing the liner, however minimum recommended edge length is approx. 400mm
For example, the liner size for a pond measured with length of 4m, width of 3m and depth of 1m can be calculated as follows. Required edge length of 400mm (i.e. 0.4m) is used for the calculation
Length of pond liner = Length of Pond liner = 4 + ( 2 x 1) + ( 2 x 0.4 ) = 6.8m
Width of pond liner = Width of pond liner = 3 + ( 2 x 1) + ( 2 x 0.4 ) = 5.8m
How to Install Small Pond Liner
1. The ground and sides of the pond need to be prepared by removing any weeds, stones, rocks or tree roots. Ensure they are smooth and free of sharp items that may damage the liner. We recommend applying a sand layer or a geo fabric layer on the ground prior to install the liner. This will provide more resilience to any ground movement and also to provide additional protection for the liner.
2. If the liner is to be used for a fish pond, then rinse the liner with water and mild detergent to remove any oils or grease deposited which may be harmful to the fish.
3. Place the pond liner in the pond, then unfold and shape to fit the pond. Observe the edges all around to make sure sufficient edge length. If not sufficient edge length, then adjust until satisfactory.

4. Secure overlapped edges around the pond using temporary weights (i.e. bricks or rocks) and adjust the liner to remove as many creases as possible for better aesthetics prior to start filling. Adjust the liner while filling if required.

Enviro Liner® 6000x
Enviro Liner® 6000x is a specialized fortified polyolefin alloy that is designed for extended life in most geomembrane applications. Fortified geomembranes are manufactured with special prime grade resins that are stabilized with advanced UV stabilizers and antioxidant additives. This provides the geomembrane with superior physical, mechanical, and endurance properties.
Enviro Liner® 6000x is fortified with the latest in Ultra Violet/Anti Oxidant (UV/AO) stabilization packages that provides exceptional UV resistance. It is designed for long term exposed applications and very good chemical resistance. It is available in thicknesses of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 mils (0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0 mm). Every step in the production of an Enviro Liner® 6000x geomembrane is completed to ISO 9000 quality management system. The Enviro Liner® 6000x series has been tested for various key performance properties and the results of these tests are listed below
Enviro Liner Specifications
Aquacon™ 345 is a premium polyethylene scrim reinforced coated fabric, specifically designed for floating cover and liner applications. Lightweight, flexible and durable Aquacon™ 345 exhibits class leading welding characteristics, providing effective and efficient field welding performance, ideal for in-factory fabrication and deployment on-site. The high strength woven HDPE scrim reinforcement and engineered UV-stabilised polyethylene coatings provide outstanding puncture and abrasion resistance to withstand the harshest of installation and environmental conditions. It is available in thickness of 0.45mm (fabric mass: 365gsm)
Aquamark® is a lightweight, flexible and extremely tough fabric. It features excellent welding characteristics and high tear strength. Aquamark® 400 is coated in an Australian facility using proprietary coating process. Its high quality Polypropylene based polyfabric specifically designed for lining ponds and dams. Aquamark® consists of the PP base scrim with a highly flexible, UV stabilised PP coating. It is available in thickness of 0.55mm (fabric mass: 400gsm) and 0.65mm (Fabric mass: 480gsm)
